Mariam had a passion for interior design before she even knew much about it along with a deep interest in cultures, global issues, and humanity.  After graduating from UC Irvine with a degree in International Studies and Management, she decided to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles to turn her passion into her career.  To her, design is a way of thinking and the way we think effects the way we live.  Living a well-designed life, both physically and mentally, can help us become not just productive but also better human beings.

Design is not the same as decoration; it’s all about human behavior and psychology.  It is a plan of actions created in response to a situation or problem that needs solving.  Designing is about forming ideas through research, planning and explaining the execution of those ideas, and making choices based on the evolution of those ideas that will lead to an end result.  According to Ralph Caplan, “…design at its best is a process of making things right. That is, designers, at their best, create things and places that work.”

The American Society of Interior Designers defines an interior designer as someone "professionally trained to create a functional and quality interior environment.  Qualified through education, experience, and examination, a professional designer can identify, research, and creatively resolve issues and lead to a healthy, safe, and comfortable physical environment."
